Subject: Morris plate
Hi there,
I have just inherited a morris 8 series E which is in need of some
restoration. I have decided to sell of its personalised plates to raise
some funds to get the wee car on the road again. The plate is MORRYE
and is listed on trademe, just search morrye.
Thanks,
Carol.
Hello, I built an electric fan into my Morris 8 series 1. Sorry, not
original, but the original fan caused vibrations and was useless when
switching off the motor - I had difficulties to start it again (bubbles
in the patrol pipe?). The electric fan runs smoothly and quiet. I have
a
Themostat now, but I think it switches on the fan too late.
My question: Which is the best temperatur for the thermostat to swich
on
the fan?
Greetings from Germany, Volker Horstmann - I am one of the very few
Morris-8-owners in Germany!
My grandfather had a Morris 8 some years ago and also there was an Austin/Morris
dealership in the family until
the early 70's. I have been lucky enough to have acquired a large
amount of literature and brochures which due
to moving to a smaller house I have to part with.
I have an Operation Manual for the Morris 8 (Series 1), A Digest of
Important Information (doesn't state which
series this refers to although the typeface and colour is the same
as for the Operation Manual) and also a
Duckhams Oiling Chart for the Morris 8 dated 1927. Also I have
a bonnet badge and a boot badge for the Morris
8.
In addition I have a book entitled The Manual of Morris Oxford and Cowley
Cars, 1928 Edition. the cover states
that a copy of this book is sent out with every Morris car. The
book comprised 160 pages however the front
cover has come apart and is unfortunately incomplete and pages up to
and including 130 are intact. According
to the Index the missing pages are 6 from the spare parts list, and
the sections entitled Standardised Repair
Charges, List of Dealers and the Lubrication Chart.
I am currently listing a number of items on e-bay but this is so specialised
that I have done a google search for
Morris 8 Owners Club and yours is the only one that came up, hence
my e-mail. I have taken the liberty of
attaching photo's and wondered whether any of your members would be
interested in making me an offer or
maybe you would be so kind as to list the items in your classified
section with my e-mail address as the contact.
I really would prefer these items to go to an enthusiast rather than just anyone who might want to bid on ebay. I'm listing a number of Austin / Morris items, sales brochures and manuals on ebay during the next few days under username MOCHRAS if you or any of your members are interested in items other than those for the Morris 8 - I know how addictive enthusiasm for the marques is.
Again, I do hope you don't mind my contacting you dirctly and unsolicited. In order for you to take a view on this and hopefully pass this offer to your club members I will refrain from listing these items on ebay until then end of April.
Thanks,
Andrew
If the Series E tourer has a boot it would be an Aussie body: the UK
body
had the spare wheel fixed to the back. If so it could be anywhere
between
1939 and 1948 though the ID numbers should be identifiable via the
British
Motor Heritage Trust Gaydon(?) UK.

CHEERS RAPH ..
Just got a Morris 8 tourer from Townsville in Queensland, Australia
and
discovered a Morris eight tourer Club badge on the grille.
Some previous owner was a member or the car was imported from NZ.
Anyway I need to get side windows and skirt made for it to match the
soft
top and wondered if anyone had plans or drawings for them that I could
use
as a guide. For example I have no idea how to mount them.
I love the ones in your web site pictures.
Can anyone help please?

Hello,
I was wondering whether you're able to help me with a question regarding
Morris Eight cars.
My father owns a Morris 8 Series E (1948) which I have listed for sale
on the Internet on his behalf.
A potential buyer made a comment to me suggesting that the front seats
may have been recovered because he noticed in the photo that while
the
back seats are ribbed, the front seats are smooth. He suggests
that
Morris 8 Series E cars had ribbed front seats.
So, I am now left with this question which I cannot answer:
- Did all Morris 8 Series E cars have ribbed front seats?
Are you - or one of your members - able to help me out with this query?
I appreciate your help.
Regards,
Edwin.
I have a Morris open and need some parts for the engine...!
Thanks for help!!

Hi there from Adelaide.
I read with interest in the M8TC March News Letter, the article and
diagram regarding fitting of tele. shockers to the Ser. I & II.
Has any one tried fitting them to Ser. E. ?
If so, how do we do it please?

Maybe someone can help me as we are restoring a Morris 10/4 2 seater
with
dickey and we are struggling to find someone who can make/supply the
rubber exstrusions that are at the base of the windscreen pillars where
they meet the body. We are being told by a supplier in the UK that
a
company in New Zealand has/ could supply these rubbers but nobody seems
to
know their name in New Zealand. Any leads would be appreciated!
Many thnaks in antisipation

Hi
We are getting married on 10th January 2004 in Nelson and require a
1 km
trip to take the bride and entourage to the Boathouse. All in
all maybe
20 minutes (allowing for the bride to be late). No other trip
is
required.
We would dearly love to be in a Morris. Does anyone know anyone
in Nelson
who could accommodate?
Thanks

Hi, we have been offered a 1937 Morris 8 4 door in running order (with
no
rego) and another complete usrestored car for parts. This seems
like too
good a deal to pass up but we would like to hear from anyone on the
merits/downfalls on owning a Morris 8. Currently we have 4 classics,
(one
a30, a vauxhall velox PAX, an HR and EH holdens.) so we are going
into
this with our eyes fully open... would welcome any comments! Thanks,
blackbird, seagull & chick...

Dear Sirs, and Morris owners,
I have asked this vital question to
dozens of people and I cannot find
the answer , so here we go
again, can anybody please tell the exact
maroon colour of the 1939 Morris Series E.
all answers can be directed to
Regards Albert C. Aumann
Now I have started on the auto trim course, I have had to decide what
front seats to use in my 1939 Ser. E Tourer. Initially, I was going
to
settle for Morris Minor seats, as what I had in the way of original
seating, was not good. (see attached picture.) that's all I've got
to work
with. Last week I took photos of both the Minor, and E seats to the
class,
and the instructor urged for me to go with the original. So here I
go. The
original seat hinges forward on the passenger's side, as can be seen
in
the photo. The driver's side is fixed. Today I fabricated from tubular
steel, what I think the backrest should look like, and left plenty
of
length in the "legs?" as the overall length of these are dictated by,
height of the seat cushions, (don't want the back rest higher than
the
gunnels, or should I say the sides,) Must find the floor pans to go
with
the seat, (burried in the shed somewhere) as the mountings are raised
above the floor, and that height also will govern the height of the
back
rests too.
My request is, can any one please give me help , either written or
pictorial in the reconstruction and design of these seats? Pictures,
factory drawings, or just good advice would be greatly appreciated
Many thanks,
Barry Booth.
