The
Morris Eight Tourer Club
Hi Peter,
Photo and advert. received OK. TIFF files are fine with me. After I convert them to jpg for the website they use a lot less memory, with no reduction in quality.
I have had a report from someone who has not been able to view the website. I have not been able to figure out why yet. I have uploaded the browser called Opera and tried to view it with it. Apparently, if a page works OK on Opera , it will be OK on any other browser. Opera doesn't display the index or the classifieds. The tricky part is, that Opera will view them from my hard drive, but not from the website. Until I get it sorted, some people will not be able to see our site.
This does not mean that Opera is a bad browser. Opera is smaller and faster that Netscape and Internet Explorer and I am sure that, once I get used to it, I will make a lot of use of it. http://www.opera.com/

Hi Alec
I went
to your Morris 8 site and clicked on your link to make sure you had
the
correct URL. You did.
I then
reloaded the page and got an endless wait. I hit reload again an
got
it OK.
I don't
know what is going on. I can only hope that it is not going to be
a
repetition of the debacle at Crosswinds. I still have not been able
to
get
the URL back and I am not pushing it as they are still having trouble.
http://www.crosswinds.net/updates.shtml
I had
my own site with them and I gave up and moved it to my son's
website
www.mooloo.com
I tried
to email you from Crosswinds and, even though they are re-directing
the
mail OK, I can't even get the "Log On" page. Roll on 2000.
Could you please let me know what happens on your next attempt.
Regards
Chris
Hi Chris
I was
very pleased to see that your website was mentioned in the issue of
the
Morris Register newsletter received today.
I immediately
tried to log on to you but after five minutes received an
error
message. Maybe a server was down or something - I'll try again
later.
I thought I'd let you know as the previous URL was easy to access,
and
it would be a pity if all those trying to find you now were disappointed.
Regards
Alec
My
internet message format is MIME and I have never had trouble opening
attached
files except for the one I received from Trevor Stewart - 24th
November
the very day I had trouble trying to login to my server. I rang
their
help desk and was told the South Island was experiencing line
problems
and when I did eventually get connected a sign popped up to say 2
messages
were incomplete so I am picking Trevor's was one. I have since
had
an e-mail with attached file (notepad) from Chris Clarke and have had
no
problems opening it.
There
is no harm done, it's been a learning curve for me. in fact I think
I
have mastered sending photos by e-mail and we now have a Readers Forum
and
a nice clear photo of Trevor Stewarts M8 sports.
Trevor, is there a soft top to go with your car?

Peter
McAuley
If you can't open an attachment
someone has emailed you, try this.
Open a Hotmail
account (If you haven't already got one).
Forward the email to your
hotmail address.
If you are in luck you will
be able to open it there.
If you are out of luck Hotmail
will only offer to ftp it to you.
Chris
I received an e-mail from
Trevor Stewart on the 24th Nov., the e-mail was
ok but I had no luck opening
the attached document. I tried open, save to
my files and save to disk
with no success (wrong file path) Trevor
indicated the document was
an advertisement for the newsletter classified
to sell his M8 Sports so
I e-mailed it to our Webmaster because all our
classifieds will feature
in
the Newsletter and web site. As luck would
have it Chris was able to
open it.
Trevor also owns a fully
restored 1935 Morris 8 four door sedan with a lot
of history, he indicated
they only wanted to keep one Morris and the Boss
wants the 35 (not so cold
in winter)
Readers Forum is proving
great for discussing problems, issues and selling
a M8 Sports. I have taken
on board what Chris said (on the web site) about
sending text by e-mail or
attached to doc, txt or html. I have uprated to
internet explorer 5 so all
my e-mails will be html.

West Coast had a M.M wellside, from memory
I think he had 2,
one restored and one unrestored, this is going back 2 years, you
could try him.

Chris,
Nice
to hear from you and keep up the good work on the net site, excellent.
File I sent Peter did have a photo in it.
Details
of the sports: It is a complete car that was under cover 12 years
prior
to Sally and I buying it. It came from the Masterton, Greytown area
and
it had a tow bar on it which was set up very high so it seems to
suggest
it was used in a fruit or veggie area pulling a trailer between
rows.
That's what I suggest anyway.
Before
going further I should explain that we have totally restored a
1935
4 door right down to every nut and bolt and intend to keep it. I have
completed
an apprenticeship as a diesel mechanic so the work done so far
on
the sports is done with that knowledge gathered over the years. I work
in
the gas and oil industry at the Maui gas field south of New Plymouth.
At
the site we have all the workshop facilities an blasting equipment. The
35
we are driving has been stripped to bare metal and rebuilt from there.
I took
the same approach with the sports so it has been stripped of
everything
and the rebuild has gone like this. The chassis was stripped
and
painted and a couple of small repairs carried out, spring hangers
slightly
egg shaped where redrilled and new pins machined. Diff stripped
cleaned
check, painted and reassembled. Front end stripped new kingpin
bushes
fitted and assembled to give rolling chassis. Brake cylinders
machine
and new cups fitted, all bearings cleaned and checked. (Need to
fit
cork seals in the rear axles). Currently have got my spare set of 17"
wheels
on the car as the 16" pressed steel wheels are getting blasted and
painted
and 16" Tyres are 40/60.
The
motor/gear box: In our 35 I fitted a 4 speed box and bent the gear
shift
to the same shape as the three speed so that there is no visual
difference,
and what a difference it makes to the car. So with that in
mine
I have done the same with the sports. Drive shaft shortened and ready
to
go. The motor is a series "E" block which was stripped and the bottom
end
looked quite clean so I replaced the rings and a valve grind carried
out.
The head is not bolted down so inspection of the internals is
possible.
Above
the rolling chassis the firewall is blasted and painted and is in
place.
The front guards, lights, bonnet and running boards are all in place
and
have all been blasted and carry a coat of PA10.
The
4 Door 34-35: It's a series one and currently stored at a friendly
neighbours
shed. The body is still restorable although the chassis may not
be.
(but I have a spare chassis I got with the first car) Someone has
started
restoration but some time back I think. The only thing I know on
the
motor is that we I got it home I did turn it over with a 12 volt
battery
on it's own starter motor so it is still free. Has a three speed
box
(and I have two other spares) and the seats have never used red
leather
upholstery.
Apart
from what i have mentioned we go a load of parts when we got the
first
car so they are in as well. The whole lot I think is fairly good
valve
for money!
My
plan now is to restore a MM well deck ute so please keep the eyes open
for
me. I have just arranged a video camera from work so will pull every
thing
out of the shed and give it the once over and then forward it on
(Please
forward address)
Better
go and do some real work so will advise on Monday if I did the
video.
Attached is a photo
of the sports before I stripped it down.
Cheers
Trevor
