The
Morris Eight Tourer Club
|
Peter McAuley There was a large turnout for the December 5th Christmas Picnic at Shirley and Martin Wallace's Mayfield farm. A line-up of 17 vintage cars, 14 Morris 8's, 1 Morris Minor and it was good to see club members bring their other cars, Lindsay de Groot arrived in his big Reo, and Ken Hand arrived in his immaculate 1954 M.G. Sports. Ruth Hand brought their Series E tourer, two cars were required to transport their grandchildren. There were several modern cars and it was good to see friends of members with their children. Wallace's farm proved ideal with lots of room to park cars and plenty of things for children and adults to look at. The sky was overcast but it was still warm enough for a picnic lunch, even if it had rained there was ample room in the wool shed for everyone. Martin and Shirley Wallace are both keen collectors of memorabilia and adults and children had a great time looking at and climbing on old tractors and farm implements. There is a large shed with an amazing array of old farm gear from a bygone era and Shirley has a little "Cottage" full of their grandparents chattels, even old cake tins and a ration book. Shirley organized a skit to entertain everyone in the wool shed, four lady hens, Ruth Kinvig, Pam McAuley, Jenny Blomfield, Shirley Wallace and Ken Hand as rooster. Then Mick Mariner went away in his M8 Sports and arrived back with Santa who proved very popular with children, giving out lollies and presents. Peter McAuley
