M8TC Members pose with cars in front of the historic Dunedin Railway Station

We went on a rally to Dunedin and stayed in a motel.  We went to Taiaroha Heads and saw a little penguin and some seals.  We had a picnic.  We went up the hill to the information centre and watched a movie of the Albatross's with a guide.  Then we went with the guide and saw the Albatross's outside on their nests. We got in our Morris and went to the Aquarium but on the way we broke down.  We had to find somebody to tow us and then Daddy phoned our friend David and he came and towed us back to their house.  They tried to fix it.  We had our tea there on the deck looking out at the view of the sea. Then we called Uncle Ross to come and get us and tow us back to our motel.  But on the way Daddy tried to start the engine and it went. The next day on Wednesday we went to Waipori Falls and it took a long time to get there. Then we went to Lawrence for lunch.  We went away down to Tuapeka Mouth and back to Dunedin. On Thursday we came home.  On the way we stopped for a Fish & Chip lunch at Palmerston and then we stopped at Shag Point for a swim in the sea. And then we went home to Timaru. My favourite part was having tea on the deck at David's place.

Four Morris Eights (one of each model) create a lot of interest.
Parked outside Larnach Castle main entrance.
29 December, day two.
Visit Lake Waipori, Waipori Falls, Hydro Dams, on to historic gold town Lawrence then detour to historic Clutha river crossing at Tuapeka. Home via Balclutha, Milton, dusty shingle roads, breakdown (fixed), great day.

Lunch stop at Lawrence. Pam cleaning dusty Morris 8 windows
Also at Lawrence.
A familiar sight. Norm Blomfield (centre) with the bonnet of his M8 up while Arnold Lincoln tests steering and Bruce Shadbolt looks on. On the way to the rally we came across the Blomfield M8 outside a shop in Oamaru, bonnet up and Norm peering at the engine. We stopped full of concern, Norm assured us everything was ok. From then on almost every time the M8 rally convey stopped Norm would get out of his car and up would go the bonnet.

30th December.  Day three.
Head south along coast road, visit to Dunedin artist Karren Baddock at Ocean View then on to Brighton for tea break. Follow coast road to Taieri Mouth, over the hill to a pleasant little picnic spot in a pine plantation. Around the south end of Lake Waihola then up  west side to Sinclair Wetlands (dusty shingle road) On to Outram and a visit to the Otago Vintage Machinary Museum. Lost 2 cars!!!!  Icecream stop at Mosgiel then head back to base.

Lunch at a pleasant little picnic spot.
