The
Morris Eight Tourer Club
Morris 8 Tourer Club Founding
and Life member Bruce Shadbolt's father had
a 40 year involvement with
the Canterbury Vintage Car Club so it's not
surprising Bruce followed
his father with an interest in vintage and veteran
vehicles. Even at High School
he was driving a Morris 8 two seat sports
and working on a Model T
Ford restoration. He joined the work force in 1979,
sold his Morris 8 sports
and bought the 'wreckage' of a rare Reo coupe,
the restored two tone blue
car a familiar sight to Canterbury members.
A project to follow was the
restoration of a 1910 Hupmobile with parts and
detail located from around
the world. The motor from Invercargill, front axle
from Wanaka and a chassis
uncovered in Christchurch. Ninety hot rivets
used to restore it back
to original. The gear box was salvaged from an old
well in Western Australia,
back axle and diff. from a trailer and the steering
column from New Brighton.
There are not many of these vehicles left but
Bruce was able to obtain
car body measurements from one on display in the
Ford Museum in the United
States

and hand brake, a foot and hand throttle plus 2
gear levers, one per gear.
