PICTURE-STORY OF THE MOTOR-CAR
In the foundry of a motor-car factory the molten metal is poured from
a ladle into moulding boxes. When cool these moulds are broken and
the castings are extracted ready for machining.
The castings of various parts of engine and chassis are then placed
on huge machines such as that shown in this picture, which is boring cylinder
blocks.

THE GEAR-BOX AND THE REAR AXLE
After machining the castings, the details of the individual parts are
brought together. In this picture we see gear-boxes being assembled
on a bench.
Here the back axles of the cars are being fitted together. They
are ranged in a long line and with men operating on each side the work
is speedily completed.
